Live art perfomance for the DEI SMTD Awards at the Michigan League on University of Michigan's campus.
Inspired by Misty Copeland and Rihanna, this piece reflects the fight for representation. Copeland’s “Make a Pointe” campaign highlighted the lack of ballet shoes in diverse skin tones. She had to compensate by coating her shoes with layers of foundation. Similarly, Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty revolutionized the beauty industry by launching 40 foundation shades in 2017, setting a new standard for inclusion in the beauty industry. This work underscores the importance of visibility and equity in all industries.
